Rosewood House II Physical Security and Surveillance System

Dunedin, FL

Rosewood House II, located in Dunedin, Florida, is an assisted living facility that provides a safe and comfortable environment for its residents. To reduce expenses, streamline operations and improve overall security, Control Room Group (CRG), a division of AVI-SPL, was asked to custom-design and install a new, state-of-the-art physical security and surveillance system.

CRG responded to Rosewood's request by surveying the facility's daily operations and interviewing managers to identify areas for security surveillance and operational improvement. After the assessment, CRG installed three Mitsubishi digital video recorders (DVRs) as well as cameras in strategic locations, including supply closets, hallways, the kitchen and dining room. CRG also expanded the facility's existing 25 cameras to 45 and provided customized training for security personnel and managers.

"We're combining a custom programmed software suite, cameras and Mitsubishi DVRs to both monitor the perimeter, as well as help control costs and add to the bottom line," said Mike Spiessbach, security market manager for the CRG physical security team who oversaw the installation.

Just three months after installing the new surveillance system, Rosewood administrators have already realized a return on their investment.

"These DVRs provide the administration with a level of business intelligence that was not there before, allowing them to effectively fine-tune their business," said Spiessbach.

Management now has the ability to efficiently monitor workflow and business processes, resulting in better security and services for Rosewood's guests. They've also seen a reduction in supply costs and misplacement through more effective monitoring of trash bins, food storage, exit and entry ways, laundry facilities and break areas.

Because the DVRs and custom-programmed software enable instant access to footage where movement occurs, administrators can analyze employee break habits and workflow patterns, resulting in better scheduling and more effective use of resources. With the new DVR software system, all video surveillance image copy is automatically stored through the built-in CD/DVD drive and USB ports to both meet HIPAA's requirements for managing health information privacy and security, and provide patient-centered environment for its clients.
